Steinhatchee has never been famous for much other than fishing and forestry, but when it comes to both, Steinhatchee Florida has few equals.
Come and see for yourself, it is like having your own private fishing paradise. You will see far few other fishermen here than in other parts of Florida.
The scalloping, crabbing, and fishing here is simply awesome—just one reason why the famous Mel Tills Tournament is held here each year.
If you are planning to participate, or attend this tournament, it is imperative that you make your reservations at least six months in advance, since this is our second busiest time of the year (only the scallop fishing season in Steinhatchee is busier).

Steinhatchee Attractions
What is with the name Steinhatchee anyway? Well, the Stein in the root of the word is pronounced “Steen”, instead of “Stine”. The Indians named Steinhatchee Florida, and Steinhatchee is loosely translated into English as “Dead Man’s Bay”, and we have also read that it could have meant “Dead Man’s River”. How it got that name remains unknown to us, but maybe you can find someone here in Steinhatchee FL that can tell you when you get here.
